Welcome
Thank you for looking at my paintings.
I like to work in a variety of mediums including acrylics, water based oils, charcoal and pastel and have recently started painting in oils.
My favourite subjects are buildings and structures within the landscape, often the more derelict or ramshackle the better.
I enjoy trying to capture the weathering of materials that takes place over time and to see nature reclaiming man made structures and machinery. Partly for that reason I love beach huts, particularly those at Mudeford Sandbank Spit, where the wind and salt air are continually battering the huts and creating wonderful textures and colours on the metal and woodwork.
I was lucky enough to own a hut on the Spit for a while. It was wonderful to stay there out of season when frequently my dog and I almost had the beach to ourselves. I miss it very much.
I also love the look of canal boats, particularly the old, characterful ones; allotment sheds; ruins; derelict buildings and old, rusted machinery and frequently haunt scrapyards looking for subjects.
Wherever I am I aim to convey a sense of place through my work.
I am happy to undertake commissions and, while I prefer to do these from my own sketches and photographs, will also paint from other people's reference pictures. Commissions start from around £150.00. Please contact me for more details.
Please also let me know if you know of any locations you think I'd enjoy working from. I welcome new inspiration and challenges and the chance to explore.
